This book attempts to distill the essence of the teachings of Maharaj from the available information and presents the result in terms that are readily intelligible and do not require any specialized religious or philosophical knowledge or aptitude. A considerable part of what has been recorded of Maharaj’s teaching is contained in the monumental work “I Am That’, a collection of conversations with Maharaj, translated from tape recordings in the original Marathi language by Maurice Frydman. Today more than ever, mankind is sorely in need of enlightenment on a spiritual level. We have technological information in abundance and it is rapidly increasing all the time but has failed to relieve sorrow and conflict. Ignorance, that is the fundamental kind of ignorance about what we are and the right way to live, is rampant. Man still has not found peace within himself. Maharaj points to a way out of our predicament. In this writer’s view, there is no other way.
